What is the name of the American version of the business-investment format shown in Dragons' Den?

The story behind the answer

Shark Tank is the American version of the business-investment format shown in Dragons' Den.

Shark Tank is an American reality television series in which entrepreneurs pitch businesses to a panel of wealthy investors, known as sharks. The programme premiered on ABC in 2009 and is based on the same international format as Dragons' Den.

The central structure is shared: founders explain their products or services, state how much money they want and offer a percentage of their business. The investors then question the entrepreneurs and may make competing offers.

The titles differ by country because the investors are called dragons in the British programme and sharks in the American adaptation. The Apprentice and The Profit are also business programmes, but they are not the US version of this format.
