What is the name of the American television series adapted from the same format as Britain's Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Shark Tank is the American television series adapted from the same format as Britain's Dragon's Den.

Shark Tank premiered in the United States in 2009 on ABC. Like Dragon's Den, it features entrepreneurs presenting businesses to a panel of wealthy investors and seeking capital, expertise or commercial partnerships. The American investors are called Sharks rather than Dragons.

The two programmes ultimately descend from the Japanese format Money Tigers. Their titles reflect local branding: the British version chose dragons, while the American version chose sharks. The casts, presenter arrangements, production details and investment outcomes are separate in each country.

A frequent mistake is to call Shark Tank the American edition of the British show in a strict remake sense. More precisely, both are national adaptations of the same underlying international format.
