Shark Tank is the American business-investment show adapted from the British TV format Dragon's Den.
The American series premiered on ABC in 2009. Entrepreneurs present businesses or product ideas to a panel of wealthy investors, known as sharks, and ask for money in exchange for an ownership stake or another form of deal.
Dragon's Den itself is based on the Japanese programme Money Tigers. The format has been adapted in many countries, but the American version uses different branding: its investors are sharks rather than dragons. The programme's structure, including pitches, questioning and negotiations, remains recognisably connected to the original format.
The American panel has included Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Robert Herjavec, Kevin O'Leary and Lori Greiner. Guest investors have also appeared across the series.
