Shark Tank is the American adaptation of the business-pitch format used by Dragon's Den.
The American series premiered on ABC in 2009. Entrepreneurs present companies and products to a panel of wealthy investors, called sharks, who may offer capital in exchange for equity or other financial terms.
The format originated in Japan and has been adapted for numerous territories. Britain uses dragons as its investor nickname, while the United States uses sharks. The casts, deals and episode structures are different, even though the central idea is shared.
Shark Tank is also connected to the earlier American programme American Inventor, but it is the direct American version associated with the international Dragons' Den format. Kevin O'Leary, Barbara Corcoran, Daymond John, Robert Herjavec and Mark Cuban are among its best-known investors.
