What is the name of the American adaptation of BBC's Dragon's Den?
Answer
Shark Tank
Answer
Shark Tank
Shark Tank is the American adaptation of BBC's Dragon's Den format.
The US programme presents entrepreneurs to a panel of wealthy investors, who decide whether to offer money in exchange for an ownership stake in the business. Although the investor nickname changes from Dragons to Sharks, the central pitch-and-negotiate structure is recognisably related.
Dragon's Den itself originated from the Japanese format Money Tigers. Different countries adapted the concept under different titles, often changing the panel's nickname and local production details while retaining the basic investment premise.
The American title is sometimes confused with other US business programmes such as The Profit or American Inventor. Those programmes also feature entrepreneurs and products, but Shark Tank is the direct US counterpart to the Dragon's Den format.
