Answer
Walk This Way
The 1986 collaboration between Run-D.M.C. and Aerosmith was “Walk This Way.”
The track began as an Aerosmith song written by Steven Tyler and Joe Perry and first released in 1975 on Toys in the Attic. While making Raising Hell, producer Rick Rubin suggested that Run-D.M.C. reinterpret it. The group had previously freestyled over the opening drum break without knowing the full song.
Run-D.M.C. recorded with Tyler and Perry, combining rap verses, rock guitar, and Tyler’s shouted vocals. The collaboration became a major crossover success, reaching number four on the Billboard Hot 100 and helping revive Aerosmith’s mainstream career.
The song is often described as a cover, but it was also a landmark collaboration: Tyler and Perry actively performed on the new version. Its memorable music video, in which Tyler breaks through a wall separating the acts, became a visual symbol of rock and hip-hop crossing into the same commercial space.
