What is the name of Nintendo’s cardboard accessory platform for the Switch?
Answer
Nintendo Labo
Answer
Nintendo Labo
Nintendo’s cardboard accessory platform for the Switch is called Nintendo Labo.
Nintendo announced Labo in January 2018 and released the first kits in April 2018. Players assembled cardboard creations called Toy-Con, then inserted Joy-Con controllers and the Switch console into them to create interactive objects such as a fishing rod, piano, vehicle, or wearable controller.
The kits combined physical construction with software. The cardboard itself did not function as an electronic controller; instead, the Switch’s screen, Joy-Con sensors, infrared camera, and motion technology detected or displayed the results of the player’s construction.
Nintendo Labo is distinct from ordinary cardboard packaging and from third-party accessories. Its defining feature is the combination of buildable cardboard forms and dedicated Switch software designed to recognize those forms.
