Quenya is J.R.R. Tolkien’s fictional High-elven language. In the mythology of Middle-earth, it was associated especially with the Noldor and other Elves who had lived in Valinor.
Tolkien developed Quenya with detailed grammar, vocabulary, and sound patterns. Finnish was a major inspiration for its structure, although Quenya is not simply Finnish with changed words.
Sindarin is another major Elvish language and is more commonly spoken in the events of The Lord of the Rings. Quenya appears in formal names, poetry, songs, and ceremonial speech, making it distinct from the everyday language of many Elves.
