What is the name of J.K. Rowling’s crime novelist pseudonym?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling’s crime novelist pseudonym is Robert Galbraith. She used that name when publishing The Cuckoo’s Calling in 2013.

The novel introduced private detective Cormoran Strike and his temporary secretary, Robin Ellacott. The book initially appeared as the work of an unknown male author, which allowed it to be judged without the immediate commercial expectations attached to Rowling’s name. A Sunday Times investigation revealed Rowling as the author several months after publication.

Rowling continued the series under the Galbraith name, including The Silkworm, Career of Evil, Lethal White, Troubled Blood, The Ink Black Heart, and The Running Grave. “Robert” was chosen partly as a tribute to Robert F. Kennedy, while “Galbraith” was inspired by a name Rowling had encountered. The pseudonym is associated with adult crime fiction, not with the Harry Potter novels.
