What is the name of Green Day's drummer?
Answer
Tré Cool
Answer
Tré Cool
Green Day's drummer is Tré Cool, who has played drums and percussion with the band since 1990.
Born Frank Edwin Wright III, Tré Cool replaced John Kiffmeyer, also known as Al Sobrante, after Kiffmeyer left to attend college. Cool first appeared on a Green Day album with Kerplunk in 1991, helping establish the energetic three-piece lineup that later broke into the mainstream.
His full-throttle playing became a major part of Green Day's sound, especially on songs from Dookie, the 1994 album that made the band internationally famous. Cool has also occasionally contributed backing or lead vocals and other instruments, but drums remain his central role in the group.
John Kiffmeyer is a genuine Green Day drummer, which explains the most likely confusion: he was an earlier member, not the band's current drummer. Mike Dirnt plays bass, while Billie Joe Armstrong handles lead vocals and guitar. Tré Cool has remained a current member through the band's later albums and tours.
