G-Star RAW’s 1996 three-dimensional jeans design is called Elwood.
The Elwood was created by designer Pierre Morisset and became one of G-Star RAW’s defining products. Its construction was inspired by the protective clothing worn by motorcyclists, particularly the way curved seams and articulated panels follow the shape of the legs.
Unlike conventional jeans, the Elwood uses shaped panels around the knees and lower legs to create a more sculpted silhouette. This helped express G-Star’s broader design philosophy of treating denim as an engineered material rather than simply as fabric for basic five-pocket trousers.
The Elwood is sometimes confused with G-Star product lines such as Arc or 3301. Those names identify other styles or collections; Elwood specifically refers to the three-dimensional design introduced in 1996.
