Bag End is the name of Frodo’s home in Hobbiton in J.R.R. Tolkien’s The Lord of the Rings.
Bag End is a comfortable hobbit-hole in Hobbiton, at the end of a private lane in the Hill. Bilbo Baggins lives there before and after his adventure in The Hobbit, and Frodo later inherits the home. Its domestic setting contrasts with the dangerous landscapes beyond the Shire.
The residence is also the location of Bilbo’s famous eleventy-first birthday party. After leaving the Shire, Frodo allows Samwise Gamgee and other companions to use it, and the house remains symbolically connected with the Baggins family.
Bag End is sometimes mixed up with Crickhollow, the house Frodo acquires in Buckland as part of his departure plan. Bagshot Row is a street in Hobbiton, while the Great Smials are the ancestral home of the Took family. These are separate places in Tolkien’s geography.
