What is the name of Frodo's gardener and companion?
Answer
Samwise Gamgee
Answer
Samwise Gamgee
Frodo’s gardener and companion is Samwise Gamgee, usually called Sam. He is a Hobbit from the Shire and becomes Frodo Baggins’s most loyal friend during the quest to destroy the One Ring.
Sam inherited his gardening position from his father, Hamfast “Gaffer” Gamgee, who had worked for Bilbo Baggins. Gandalf discovers Sam eavesdropping on a private conversation about Frodo’s journey and orders him to accompany Frodo to Rivendell. What begins as an assigned duty becomes an extraordinary partnership.
Sam remains with Frodo after the Fellowship breaks apart, protecting and encouraging him through Mordor. He briefly carries the Ring himself after believing Frodo has been killed, then returns it when he discovers Frodo is alive. Near Mount Doom, Sam even carries Frodo when the Ring-bearer can no longer walk.
Readers sometimes confuse Sam with Merry or Pippin, Frodo’s other Hobbit companions. Unlike them, Sam is specifically Frodo’s gardener, servant, and steadfast travelling companion. After the War of the Ring, he returns to the Shire, marries Rosie Cotton, and serves as Mayor for seven consecutive terms.
