What is the name of C.S. Lewis’s second science-fiction novel?
Answer
Perelandra
Answer
Perelandra
Perelandra is C.S. Lewis’s second science-fiction novel.
Published in 1943, Perelandra is the middle volume of Lewis’s Space Trilogy. Its protagonist, Elwin Ransom, travels to the planet Perelandra, which is also called Venus, and becomes involved in a struggle over temptation, innocence, and the future of the world.
The trilogy begins with Out of the Silent Planet, published in 1938, and concludes with That Hideous Strength, published in 1945. Although the books share characters and ideas, each has a distinct setting and narrative structure.
The title is sometimes confused with Venus, the planet’s classical name. Perelandra is the fictional name used within Lewis’s story, while Venus is the astronomical name for the real planet.
