What is the name of Carl Johnson's home gang in GTA: San Andreas?

Carl Johnson’s home gang in GTA: San Andreas is the Grove Street Families. Commonly abbreviated as GSF, the gang is based around Grove Street in Ganton, a neighborhood of Los Santos.

CJ grew up with the gang alongside his brother Sean “Sweet” Johnson and childhood friends Big Smoke and Ryder. Sweet leads the Families during much of the story, while Carl serves as a senior member and helps rebuild the organization after returning to Los Santos in 1992.

Before CJ’s return, the Grove Street Families had lost much of their territory and influence to the Ballas. The gang’s weakness is connected to internal divisions, the expanding drug trade, and the betrayal of Big Smoke and Ryder. CJ’s missions gradually restore the Families’ strength and reclaim parts of Los Santos from rival gangs.

The Ballas and Los Santos Vagos are separate rival organizations, not alternate names for CJ’s gang. The term “Grove Street Families” also refers to a broader grouping that includes sets such as the Seville Boulevard and Temple Drive Families.
