Answer
KC-46 Pegasus
Answer
KC-46 Pegasus
Boeing’s aerial-refueling tanker based on the 767-2C is the KC-46 Pegasus.
The KC-46 Pegasus was developed for the United States Air Force under the KC-X tanker competition. Boeing based its design on the 767-200ER commercial airliner, adapting the airframe with military systems, fuel tanks, a refueling boom, and a centerline drogue system. The tanker can refuel both fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters with compatible equipment.
The KC-46 uses a remote-vision system that gives its operators a panoramic view of the aircraft during refueling. It also carries passengers, cargo, and medical evacuation loads, making it more versatile than a tanker used only for fuel transfer.
The Pegasus is often confused with the older KC-135 Stratotanker and the retired KC-10 Extender. Boeing began delivering KC-46 aircraft to the Air Force in 2019. Japan also selected the KC-46 for its air self-defense force.
