Beyoncé's 2022 album featuring the opening single “Break My Soul” is titled Renaissance.
Renaissance was released on July 29, 2022, as Beyoncé's seventh solo studio album. “Break My Soul” arrived as its lead single and became her eighth number-one single on the US Billboard Hot 100 as a solo artist.
The album draws heavily on dance, house, disco, funk, and electronic music. It also incorporates samples and interpolations from earlier artists, connecting Beyoncé's work to club-music traditions and Black queer musical history.
Renaissance was presented as the first act of a planned three-part project. Its follow-up, Cowboy Carter, was released in 2024 and explored country and American roots music. Renaissance is therefore distinct from Lemonade, Beyoncé's 2016 visual album, and from the later film documenting its concert tour.
