The fictional device used to view genetic memories in Assassin's Creed is the Animus.
In the series, the Animus allows a user to relive memories inherited through a person's genetic material. The user enters a simulated experience based on an ancestor's life, rather than literally travelling through time. This premise lets the games move between modern characters and historical protagonists.
Desmond Miles is connected to the Animus in the first games, using it to experience Altaïr, Ezio, and Connor's memories. Later stories introduce different models and portable versions, including Abstergo's Helix entertainment system.
The Animus is often confused with Eagle Vision, which is a perception ability, or the Apple of Eden, a powerful Isu artifact. Those elements belong to the same fictional universe but serve different purposes. The Animus is specifically the memory-access machine central to the series' modern framing narrative.
