In Assassin's Creed III: Liberation, which character is the series' first female protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Aveline de Grandpré is the first female protagonist in the Assassin's Creed video-game series.

Aveline is a mixed-race Assassin operating in New Orleans and the surrounding Louisiana region during the eighteenth century. Assassin's Creed III: Liberation follows her efforts against Templar influence while she navigates the social divisions of colonial society.

The game was originally released for PlayStation Vita in 2012 and later received versions for other platforms. Aveline can use disguises, including outfits associated with a lady, a slave, and an Assassin, giving the game a distinct identity system tied to movement and social access.

Later female protagonists include Evie Frye in Syndicate, Aya in Origins, and Kassandra in Odyssey. They are important playable characters, but Aveline appeared first in the series' chronology of game releases.
