What is the name of Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s canonically recognized protagonist?

The story behind the answer

Kassandra is Assassin’s Creed Odyssey’s canonically recognized protagonist. The game lets players choose either Kassandra or Alexios as the playable character, but later official material identifies Kassandra as the canon Eagle Bearer.

Odyssey is set in ancient Greece during the Peloponnesian War, beginning in 431 BCE. The protagonist is a descendant of King Leonidas I of Sparta and carries the broken spear of Leonidas, which functions as an important story artifact.

The choice between Kassandra and Alexios affects the player’s experience, but the game’s broad events remain part of the same historical setting. Alexios is also used as the opposing Deimos character when Kassandra is selected. This makes the two names easy to confuse when discussing the game’s protagonist.
