What is the name of Animal Crossing: New Leaf's free 2016 update?

Animal Crossing: New Leaf’s free 2016 update is called Welcome amiibo.

Nintendo released the major update on November 2, 2016, adding amiibo support and several new features to the Nintendo 3DS game. Owners of the original New Leaf could download the update at no charge through the Nintendo eShop. Nintendo also sold a retail version titled Animal Crossing: New Leaf – Welcome amiibo.

The update expanded the town with a campground where players could summon villagers and special characters using compatible Animal Crossing amiibo figures and cards. It also added support for other Nintendo amiibo, introduced new activities, and incorporated save-data integration with Animal Crossing: Happy Home Designer.

The title can cause confusion because Welcome amiibo describes both the update and the updated retail release. It is not a separate mainline game like City Folk, nor is it the same product as Happy Home Paradise, which is downloadable content for Animal Crossing: New Horizons.
