Layla Hassan is the modern-day Animus analyst in Assassin's Creed Valhalla. She and her allies use the Animus to investigate the memories of Eivor, a Viking who settles in ninth-century England.
Valhalla was released in 2020 and presents Eivor's historical journey alongside a continuing present-day storyline. Layla had already appeared as a major modern character in Assassin's Creed Origins and Odyssey, where she pursued ancient artifacts and explored genetic memories.
The historical campaign features Eivor's arrival in England, alliances with local kingdoms, and conflicts involving the Order of Ancients. The game also connects its Viking narrative to broader Assassin's Creed mythology and the Isu civilization.
Layla is not the same character as Rebecca Crane, who is an Assassin technology specialist associated with earlier modern-day sequences. Sofia Sartor is another character from the franchise, but she is linked to the Italian and Ottoman historical storylines rather than Valhalla's Animus analysis.
