What is the maximum number of players in a Mythic raid group?

The story behind the answer

What is the maximum number of players in a Mythic raid group? The answer is 20. Mythic raids in World of Warcraft use a fixed group size of exactly 20 players, unlike Normal and Heroic raids, which generally support flexible group sizes.

The fixed Mythic format was introduced with Warlords of Draenor. Blizzard created it by consolidating the previous 10-player and 25-player Heroic raid formats into one standardized 20-player difficulty. This gave encounter designers a consistent target for tuning mechanics, damage requirements, healing checks, and coordination challenges.

Mythic raids are designed as the game’s most demanding organized raid content. A guild normally builds a roster larger than 20 people so it can handle absences, substitutions, and class requirements, but only 20 players can enter the active Mythic raid group for a given encounter. Benched players may rotate between attempts or bosses.

The common confusion comes from other raid difficulties and from older versions of World of Warcraft. Earlier raids sometimes used fixed 10-, 25-, or 40-player formats, while modern Normal and Heroic raids can scale within a range. Mythic remains the exception: its standard requirement is fixed at 20.
