The maximum level cap in the Shadowlands expansion is 60. Shadowlands introduced a level squish: characters who had reached level 120 in Battle for Azeroth were reduced to level 50, and players then advanced through the new Shadowlands content from 50 to 60.
This was a major change to World of Warcraft’s progression system rather than simply adding another large block of levels. Blizzard also adjusted levels, item levels, and statistics across the game so that older content would be easier to navigate and new characters would face a more manageable numerical scale.
Level 60 marked the gateway to Shadowlands end-game systems, including Covenant progression, world quests, dungeons, raids, Torghast, and legendary-item crafting. The number is specific to that expansion’s system: later World of Warcraft expansions raised the cap again, so it should not be confused with the game’s permanent or current maximum level.
