The maximum level in the original 2004 version of World of Warcraft was 60.
At launch, characters began at level 1 and advanced by earning experience from quests, exploring, and defeating enemies. Reaching level 60 marked the end of the original leveling journey and opened the game’s highest-level activities, including difficult dungeons, class quests, and raids such as Molten Core and Onyxia’s Lair.
The original game launched in North America on 23 November 2004, with the continents of Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms available. Its level cap was designed around that initial world and the progression systems of the pre-expansion game, often called vanilla WoW.
The numbers in the wrong options are associated with later expansion caps. The Burning Crusade raised the cap to 70 in 2007, while Wrath of the Lich King raised it to 80 in 2008. Later level squishes and modern expansions can make historical cap questions confusing, but 60 is the canonical launch-era answer.
