What is the main historical city in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, where Ezio searches for Altaïr’s legacy?

The story behind the answer

Constantinople is the main historical city in Assassin’s Creed: Revelations, where Ezio searches for Altaïr’s legacy.

Released in 2011, Revelations follows the later life of Ezio Auditore. He travels to Constantinople, the capital of the Byzantine Empire, to locate keys connected to Altaïr’s former library in Masyaf. The city is divided into districts controlled by the Byzantine Templars, creating the setting for Ezio’s investigations and conflicts.

The game presents Constantinople in the early sixteenth century, during the reign of Ottoman Sultan Bayezid II. Ezio interacts with members of the Ottoman royal family, including Prince Suleiman, who later became Sultan Suleiman the Magnificent.

The city’s modern name is Istanbul, but “Constantinople” is the historically appropriate name for the period depicted in the game. Masyaf and Cappadocia also appear in the story, yet Constantinople is the principal urban setting and the location most associated with Ezio’s final adventure.
