What is the main field color of Saint Lucia's flag?
Answer
Cerulean blue
Answer
Cerulean blue
The main field color of Saint Lucia’s flag is cerulean blue.
Cerulean blue forms the entire background of the flag, representing the sky and the surrounding Atlantic Ocean and Caribbean Sea. In the center are two triangles: a black isosceles triangle edged in white and a smaller golden triangle in front of it. Their pointed forms represent the Pitons, Saint Lucia’s famous twin volcanic peaks.
The flag was designed by Saint Lucian artist Dunstan St Omer and adopted on 1 March 1967, when Saint Lucia became an Associated State of the United Kingdom. The island retained the same basic design when it became independent on 22 February 1979, although the shade of blue and the proportions of the triangles were adjusted over time.
The field is sometimes described more generally as light blue, but cerulean blue is the established color name used in descriptions of the national flag. Golden yellow is a secondary color, symbolizing sunshine and prosperity, while black and white refer to the relationship between the island’s African and European communities.
