What is the longest circuit currently on the Formula 1 calendar?
Answer
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
Answer
Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps
The Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps is the longest circuit currently used on the Formula 1 calendar. The modern Grand Prix layout measures approximately 7.004 kilometres, making it substantially longer than venues such as Silverstone, Monza, and the Jeddah Corniche Circuit.
Spa-Francorchamps is located in the Ardennes forest of Belgium and is renowned for dramatic elevation changes, unpredictable weather, and fast corners. Its signature section is Eau Rouge and Raidillon, where the track climbs steeply through a high-speed sequence. Other famous corners include Les Combes, Pouhon, and Blanchimont.
The circuit’s present layout is much shorter than the original public-road course, which measured more than 14 kilometres. Safety changes over several decades transformed Spa into a permanent racing facility while preserving much of its character and speed.
The track’s length creates unusual strategic challenges. Weather can differ between sections of the circuit, and a small mistake may cost more time than at a shorter venue. Spa also hosts the Belgian Grand Prix, traditionally one of Formula 1’s most weather-sensitive races.
