The name connects the esport to the game’s original lore and terminology, in which players were traditionally framed as summoners controlling champions. The cup is presented after the final, and the winning team lifts it during the championship celebration alongside its title and prize.

The trophy has changed over time. Thomas Lyte created the World Championship Cups used in 2012 and 2014, and Riot partnered with Tiffany & Co. on a redesigned version introduced for the 2022 event. The design and weight have continued to evolve; the 2025 redesign returned closer to the original appearance and reduced the weight to about 22 pounds, or 10 kilograms.

“Worlds trophy” is an understandable description, but Summoner’s Cup is the official name. Rift Cup, Worlds Chalice, and Aegis of Champions are not the canonical title.
