What is the homeworld of the Klingons?
Answer
Qo'noS
Answer
Qo'noS
The homeworld of the Klingons is Qo’noS, also rendered as Kronos in English-language Star Trek dialogue and reference material. It is the political and cultural heart of the Klingon Empire.
The planet’s naming history is unusually complicated. Early Star Trek material used names such as Klinzhai and Kling, while Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country established Kronos. Linguist Marc Okrand later created the Klingon-language spelling Qo’noS, which is now the most familiar canonical form.
Qo’noS is associated with the Klingon capital and with the empire’s warrior-centered society. The moon Praxis is nearby, but it is not the homeworld; its destruction is a major event in Star Trek VI. Rura Penthe is also a location in the Klingon system, best known as a prison colony, while Cardassia belongs to the Cardassians.
For a TNG quiz, Qo’noS is the canonical answer. “Kronos” may appear in English dialogue, but it refers to the same planet rather than a different world.
