What is the historical name of Istanbul in Assassin's Creed Revelations?

The story behind the answer

The historical name used for Istanbul in Assassin's Creed Revelations is Constantinople.

Most of the game's historical campaign takes place in Constantinople during the early sixteenth century. Ezio Auditore travels there to search for keys connected with Altaïr's legacy and becomes involved in the city's struggle between Ottoman and Byzantine interests.

The game was released in 2011 and presents districts on both sides of the Bosporus, including areas associated with Constantinople's historic urban landscape. Ottoman figures such as Suleiman, later known as Suleiman the Magnificent, appear in the story.

The modern name Istanbul became standard in international usage after the period depicted in the game, but Constantinople is the historically appropriate name for its sixteenth-century setting. Byzantium is an earlier name associated with the city, while Alexandria and Antioch are different cities in the eastern Mediterranean.
