What is the highest point on the Caribbean island of Barbados?
Answer
Mount Hillaby
Answer
Mount Hillaby
Mount Hillaby is the highest point on the Caribbean island of Barbados.
Mount Hillaby rises to about 340 metres in the Scotland District of northern Barbados. The area’s landscape differs from the island’s coral terraces and gently rolling coastal plains because ancient rocks are exposed there.
Barbados is one of the Lesser Antilles, but it is geologically distinct from many volcanic islands farther west. Much of Barbados consists of coral limestone uplifted above sea level, which helped create its characteristic terraces and caves.
Mount Hillaby is sometimes confused with taller Caribbean peaks such as Mount Liamuiga on Saint Kitts or Pico Turquino in Cuba. Those mountains belong to different islands and are substantially higher. Barbados’s highest point is modest in elevation, but it is an important geographical landmark on the island.
