Mount Liamuiga is the highest mountain on Saint Kitts, reaching 1,156 metres (3,792 feet).
The stratovolcano stands at the northern end of Saint Kitts and has a forested summit crater. Its name comes from an indigenous name for Saint Kitts, often translated as “fertile island.” The mountain is a prominent feature of the island’s volcanic landscape.
Saint Kitts and nearby Nevis form the sovereign federation of Saint Kitts and Nevis. Mount Liamuiga is on Saint Kitts, not on Nevis, whose highest summit is Nevis Peak. The island also contains Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a separate historic landmark.
