What is the foundation player designation in Madden NFL 27 Ultimate Team called?

The foundation player designation in Madden NFL 27 Ultimate Team is called Ultimate Captain.

An Ultimate Captain is one core player chosen to anchor a user’s roster throughout the year. The selected player can be upgraded, evolved, and customized as the Ultimate Team season progresses.

The designation is designed to create continuity in a mode built around collecting and replacing player items. Rather than treating every item as temporary, the Ultimate Captain gives users one long-term development project.

Users can later power down the current Captain and choose another eligible Captain. That flexibility distinguishes the feature from a permanently locked team leader. Ultimate Captain progression works alongside Madden NFL 27’s upgrade system and Evo items.
