What is the final novel in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia series?

The story behind the answer

The Last Battle is the final novel in C.S. Lewis’s Chronicles of Narnia.

Published in 1956, The Last Battle is the seventh and concluding book in the internal chronology of The Chronicles of Narnia. It describes the final crisis of Narnia, involving deception, political conflict, the false Aslan, and the end of the old Narnian world. The novel won the Carnegie Medal in 1957.

The publication order differs from the chronological order often used in modern editions. The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe was published first in 1950, while The Last Battle appeared seventh in publication order as well as concluding the story’s main arc.

Some readers confuse the final book with The Silver Chair, which is the sixth published volume and the fourth in the internal chronology. The Last Battle is the definitive concluding title, not merely the final story featuring a particular human character.
