What is the final main Harry Potter novel written by J.K. Rowling?

The story behind the answer

The final main Harry Potter novel written by J.K. Rowling is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

Published in 2007, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows is the seventh book in the series. It follows Harry, Ron Weasley and Hermione Granger as they leave Hogwarts to search for Horcruxes and confront Lord Voldemort.

The title refers to three legendary magical objects: the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility. Together, these objects form the Deathly Hallows, although the novel’s central conflict also involves the Horcruxes that hold pieces of Voldemort’s soul.

The book was adapted into Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 1 and Part 2. That two-film adaptation can make the title seem like two separate books, but there is only one final main novel. Harry Potter and the Cursed Child takes place later and is a stage play rather than the eighth novel.
