Money Tigers is the English translation commonly given for Money no Tora, the Japanese programme that supplied the format source for Dragon's Den.
The title refers to the programme’s investor figures, who assessed entrepreneurs seeking financial backing. Its structure supplied the key ingredients later used by Dragon's Den: a business proposal, a requested investment, a discussion of valuation and ownership, and the possibility of rejection or a deal.
The wording can cause confusion because the British programme uses the animal image of dragons rather than tigers. The two titles describe related television formats, not the same national production.
The Japanese show is therefore important in the programme’s history even though British viewers usually encounter the format through the BBC adaptation and its own panel of business investors.
