The Elvish name for the land of the Valar in J.R.R. Tolkien’s mythology is Valinor.
Valinor lies in Aman, the western continent of Tolkien’s imagined world. It is the dwelling place of the Valar, powerful beings who help shape and govern Arda. Many Elves also live there, especially after leaving Middle-earth. Valinor is associated with the Two Trees, Valinorean cities, and the blessed realm often called the Undying Lands.
Valinor is not itself the whole of Aman, and it is not simply a version of heaven. Aman is the larger continent, while Valinor is the region inhabited by the Valar and their people. The phrase “Undying Lands” refers broadly to Aman and should not be mistaken for a promise that mortal visitors become immortal. Frodo and Bilbo eventually sail there because of their special role and suffering, not because the journey grants ordinary immortality.
