What is the Elvish name for Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings?

The story behind the answer

Imladris is the Elvish name for Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings.

Rivendell, also called Imladris, is an Elven refuge founded and ruled by Elrond. It lies in a hidden valley east of the Misty Mountains and serves as a place of healing, learning, and protection. The name Imladris is from Sindarin, one of Tolkien’s Elvish languages.

In The Hobbit, Bilbo and the dwarves stay with Elrond before crossing the Misty Mountains. In The Lord of the Rings, Frodo recovers there after being wounded by a Morgul-knife, and the Council of Elrond decides what should be done with the One Ring.

Imladris is sometimes confused with Lothlórien, another Elven realm ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn. Lothlórien lies farther south, near the Anduin. Mithlond is the Grey Havens, while Erebor is the Lonely Mountain, the dwarven kingdom central to The Hobbit.
