What is the Elvish name for Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth?

The story behind the answer

The Elvish name for Rivendell in J.R.R. Tolkien’s Middle-earth is Imladris.

Rivendell is the English name commonly used for the hidden Elven refuge founded and ruled by Elrond. In Sindarin, one of Tolkien’s constructed Elvish languages, the settlement is called Imladris, a name associated with a cleft or valley in the mountains.

The refuge lies east of the Misty Mountains and becomes a major meeting place in both The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. Bilbo visits it during his journey, and the Council of Elrond later decides the fate of the One Ring there.

Imladris is not the same place as Lothlórien, the woodland realm ruled by Galadriel and Celeborn. Both are Elven strongholds, but Rivendell is linked especially with Elrond, lore, healing, and counsel.
