What is the capital of Grenada, the Caribbean island nation known as the Isle of Spice?

The story behind the answer

St. George's is the capital of Grenada, the Caribbean island nation known as the Isle of Spice.

The city lies on Grenada’s southwestern coast around a horseshoe-shaped harbor. Its waterfront, steep hills, colorful buildings, and historic forts make it one of the Caribbean’s most recognizable capital cities. Grenada’s government offices, principal port facilities, and much of its commercial activity are concentrated in or near St. George’s.

The settlement was founded by the French in 1650 as Ville de Saint-Georges. Britain later captured Grenada, and the island remained under British rule until independence in 1974. The city’s name is often written with an apostrophe and an s: St. George’s.

St. George’s is sometimes confused with Kingstown, the capital of nearby Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, or with St. George’s in Bermuda. Those are separate places in different Caribbean territories.
