What is the capital city of Fiji?
Answer
Suva
Answer
Suva
The capital city of Fiji is Suva. It is located on a hilly peninsula on the south-eastern coast of Viti Levu and serves as Fiji’s political, administrative, commercial, and cultural centre.
Suva became Fiji’s capital after the colonial administration moved it from Levuka in 1877. Levuka, on the island of Ovalau, had limited room for expansion because it was squeezed between steep hills and the sea. Suva offered more space and a better setting for a growing administrative and port city; the transfer of government functions was completed in 1882.
Today, Suva surrounds a harbour between Laucala Bay and Suva Harbour. Its tropical climate is notably wet because nearby hills intercept the south-eastern trade winds. The city is also a regional hub for Pacific institutions, diplomatic missions, universities, businesses, and international organisations.
Port Vila is the capital of Vanuatu, Honiara is the capital of Solomon Islands, and Apia is the capital of Samoa. Their presence among the choices reflects Fiji’s place in the island nations of Oceania, but none is Fiji’s capital.
