Answer
Entrepreneurs pitching businesses to investors
The British programme Dragon's Den is primarily about entrepreneurs pitching businesses to investors.
Each pitch gives an entrepreneur an opportunity to explain a company, product or business idea to a panel of wealthy investors known as Dragons. The entrepreneur normally requests funding and offers an ownership share, while the Dragons question the proposal and decide whether to make an offer.
The programme is both an entertainment series and a televised discussion of entrepreneurship. Its recurring subjects include revenue, profit, costs, intellectual property, competition, valuation and plans for expansion. The pitch-room format turns those commercial questions into a direct negotiation.
It is not a celebrity singing contest, historical documentary or cooking competition. Such programmes are common television genres, but they do not describe Dragon's Den. The British series belongs to the international business-pitching format that originated with Japan’s Money Tigers.
