What is the British business-investment show Dragon's Den called in the United States?

The story behind the answer

The British business-investment show Dragon's Den is called Shark Tank in the United States.

Shark Tank is the American adaptation of the same international format. Entrepreneurs pitch businesses to a panel of investors, called sharks in the US version, seeking money in exchange for equity. The programme premiered in the United States in 2009 and has featured investors including Mark Cuban, Barbara Corcoran, Kevin O'Leary, Daymond John and Lori Greiner.

The core structure is shared with the British show, but the title and panel terminology are different. In Britain, the investors are dragons; in the United States, they are sharks. The change reflects localisation rather than a different basic concept.

The two programmes are also not the same production. Their panels, broadcasters, presenters and individual deals differ, even though both descend from the Japanese format Money Tigers. This distinction prevents the US title from being treated as an alternative name for the BBC series.
