Ratonhnhaké:ton is a Kanien'kehá:ka man who later adopts the name Connor for easier use among colonial settlers. He becomes an Assassin under the guidance of Achilles Davenport and fights during the American Revolution.

The game begins in the Mohawk Valley and later moves through Boston, New York, the frontier, and naval areas. Connor's mixed heritage places him between Indigenous communities and the competing British and revolutionary forces.

Many players know the character primarily as Connor, which is why his birth name can be difficult to recall. Haytham Kenway, Connor's father, is also a major playable character at the beginning of the game, but he is not the main protagonist of the full campaign.
