Shark Tank is the American version of the business-pitching format associated with the British TV show Dragons' Den.
The format originated in Japan as Money Tigers before being adapted for different countries. In the United States, the programme was developed as Shark Tank, with entrepreneurs presenting businesses to a panel of wealthy investors known as sharks.
The British programme uses dragons rather than sharks, but the central structure is similar: entrepreneurs explain their products, disclose requested investment and offer equity in return. The American title is sometimes confused with the British title because both programmes use the same underlying format, but Shark Tank is the established US name.
