The American adaptation of the British television programme Dragons' Den is called Shark Tank.
Shark Tank is an American business reality television series in which entrepreneurs pitch companies and products to wealthy investors. The investors can offer funding in exchange for an ownership stake, creating the same central negotiation between founders and a panel of potential backers.
The British series itself is part of an international format that originated with Japan's Money Tigers. Different territories changed the branding and terminology for local audiences. In Britain, investors are called Dragons; in the United States, they are called Sharks.
Shark Tank premiered in the United States in 2009. Although the titles and panel members differ, both programmes focus on valuation, equity, sales performance and the pressure of answering investors' questions in the pitch room.
