What is Noah’s name in the Quran, the Islamic scripture that also recounts his Ark story?

The story behind the answer

Noah’s name in the Quran is Nuh.

Nuh is the Arabic form of Noah and is the name used for the prophet in the Quran and Islamic tradition. Several Quranic passages recount his preaching, his people’s rejection, the coming flood, and the construction of the Ark. The most extensive account appears in Surah 11, Hud, while Surah 71 is devoted to Nuh’s preaching.

The Quranic account shares the central idea of a divinely commanded vessel with Genesis, but it differs in details and emphasis. It presents Nuh as a messenger warning his people and includes a scene in which one of his sons refuses to board the Ark and is overwhelmed by the flood. The Quran does not reproduce every detail found in Genesis, such as the biblical dimensions of the Ark.

Nuh is one of the major prophets recognized in Islam. The name should not be confused with Hud, Salih, or Lut, who are separate prophetic figures in the Quran.
