The U-Drop Inn is the historic Route 66 landmark in Shamrock, Texas, designed with an Art Deco tower and a café.
Constructed in 1936, the building served both travelers and truck drivers at the intersection of U.S. Routes 66 and 83. Its striking tower, curved forms, and neon signage made it one of the most recognizable roadside businesses in the Texas Panhandle.
The name can cause confusion because the complex included two related businesses: the U-Drop Inn café and the Tower Station filling station. The building closed as a service station in the 1990s but was restored and is now a visitor center and museum.
The U-Drop Inn is also associated with Pixar’s 2006 film Cars, whose fictional Radiator Springs landmarks drew inspiration from several Route 66 sites.
