What height does Genesis assign to Noah’s Ark?

The story behind the answer

Genesis assigns Noah’s Ark a height of 30 cubits. Genesis 6:15 gives this figure after stating that the Ark is 300 cubits long and 50 cubits wide. These three dimensions form the complete set of principal measurements in the construction instructions.

The precise modern height depends on the length of the cubit. Since ancient cubits were not identical everywhere, 30 cubits is usually rendered as approximately 13 to 15 metres, or around 45 feet. Such conversions are estimates, not measurements directly stated by Genesis. The text’s certainty lies in the number of cubits.

Genesis says the Ark has three decks and compartments, which helps explain why height is included in the specifications. It also mentions a roof and a side door, but gives no detailed engineering description. Later paintings, models, and theme-park replicas differ greatly in appearance because they must add design details not supplied by the biblical narrative.
